This scan is performed after 10 weeks, to determine the that the fetus is in the uterus - that is, the pregnancy is not ectopic. This scan will last about ten minutes, and we ask you to come to the clinic with a full bladder as the sonographer uses the bladder as a magnifying ‘lens’ to gain clearer images. You may be given the option of an internal (TV) scan to gain clearer images.

You will be given several black and white thermal prints and a simple letter to take back to your GP, containing your clinical dates. We are happy to provide further information on request.

Sadly, the news we have is not always good. In such a case, you will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and all the necessary information will be sensitively conveyed to your GP in a letter.
